about

Cambridge University Bowmen has been the university’s archery club for well over 60 years. During its time, the club has been highly successful in local and national competitions, including British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS), the annual Cambridge vs Oxford Varsity Match and the BUTTS League. You can read more about our performance and achievements in the competitions section.

The club is open to members of the University of Cambridge (both students and staff) and other university students (e.g. Anglia Ruskin). There is also an alumni club for past members. To find out more please contact the alumni officer. For anyone else, we recommend Netherhall Archers or the City of Cambridge Bowmen which are both local clubs in Cambridge.

We warmly welcome new beginners each and every year, and this is how many of our current experienced members first started. Our have-a-go sessions at the beginning of Michaelmas Term each year are always popular, and provide a fun way of trying archery and meeting the club. We provide all equipment necessary, so feel free come along and speak to a committee member. We also run a beginner's course with a structured coaching program and all the training needed to take part in the sport. More information about starting archery as a beginner can be found by clicking here.

If you are interested in joining the club as an experienced archer we'd love to hear from you. Though the majority of our members shoot recurve we welcome any bowstyle, from longbow to compound and even mongol bows! More information about joining as an experienced member can be found by clicking here.

Archery at Cambridge is a Half Blue sport, with the award being given for high performance in the annual Varsity match. Members who represent the club at other competitions may earn Team Colors, whilst an exceptional performance of a national standard may earn a Full Blue. The history of individual achievements within the club can be found in the member's section.

We shoot regularly throughout the year, in both the indoor and outdoor season, and practice times and locations can be found on the training sessions page.

Please feel free to browse our website and find out more about the club. A more detailed history can be found from the articles in the archive. If there is anything that you can't find an answer to then please feel free to contact a member of the committee.
